A child who wakes up often during the night disrupts the entire household. It does not matter if your little insomniac is a baby, child or an older child; frequent interruptions of sleep are unhealthy. The intervention is necessary.
Make sleep a priority
Most children under 12 need 10 to 12 hours of sleep per night. If your child does not get enough rest, sleep disorders develop rapidly. One way to prevent problems of sleep is to sleep a priority.
• Set a bedtime and stick to it. Do not change bedtime on weekends or as a reward.
• Reduce the physical and mental stimulation as bedtime approaches.
• If your child seems tired during the day, allow them to nap for a few minutes until they establish a pattern of healthy sleep.
• a daily routine that includes regular exercise and a start time set for each day encourages healthy sleep habits.
Preparing for bedtime
A ritual allows your child gear for the evening.
• Encourage your child to choose a stuffed animal or blanket to take to bed every night for more comfort.
• Reducing the amount of fluid consumed two hours before sunset to eliminate pot-breaks during the night. Avoid caffeine and sugar of at least five hours before bedtime so.
• Draw the shadows and use a white noise machine ora rhythmic sounds of nature Band. Turn on night while your child is still awake.
• Play music, watch a few minutes of non-stimulation of television in the evening, or read a book at bedtime.
It is important for your child to learn to rest on its own. If he relies on you to initiate sleep by nursing him, rocking him or sing to him, you must intervene, whenever your child wakes up at night.
Put your baby to bed while he is drowsy but still awake. May you stay in the room and Pat his back gently or speak softly to reassure your presence, but allows him to learn to rest on its own. This is an important life skills.
Many parents resort to co-sleep with their child when the child wakes up often during the night. This works for some families. Most parents regret finally resort to co-sleeping because it fosters a continual need of the child to sleep with someone. Unless you are willing to share your bed with your child for several years, co-sleeping is not a good strategy to choose.
Changing sleep habits requires small adjustments over many nights. If your child expects you to the rock every night of sleep, decreased the period of rocking two minutes each night, progress within walking around the room before bed, and put it in the nursery, when he is drowsy but awake.
Kids do not change. Any change - whatever small - is often met with strong protests and the extent of crying. It is important to check on the child and often reassure that you are nearby. Do mention that you can stay in bed or cot.
Get your child to sleep at night through May seems an impossible task. With patience, determination and vigilance, you and your child can both really get more rest.
